What is Crack Cocaine and Why is it so Addictive?

Crack cocaine is derived from powder version and appear in crystal form. It comes in solid blocks or crystals which vary in colour from a pale rose to yellow colour. It is named crack because it makes a cracking or popping sound when heated.

Crack is the strongest form in which cocaine appears and is also the most dangerous and addictive. On average it is 75% and 100% pure, far stronger and more potent than regular powder cocaine which is generally snorted. Smoking crack lasts about 15mins but as it reaches the brain and bloodstream quicker is more intense and addictive.

Many have reported becoming addicted to crack after there first usage and smoking crack recreationally rarely if ever lasts. Once you start smoking regularly you invariable become addicted and need treatment to stop and stay stopped long term.

Crack, Heroin and Other Addictions

Many clients we treat for crack cocaine addiction have other cross addictions i.e. they smoke heroin or suffer with alcohol abuse issues. Maybe they have behavioural addictions such as gambling, stealing sex and love etc… therefore it is important that these issues which may seem secondary to the addict, are uncovered in assessment so they can be treated during rehab. If you or a loved one have a cross addiction do not worry, we treat each client uniquely, personalising our detox (if necessary) and therapeutic rehabilitation programme.

Residential Crack Cocaine Treatment at Oasis

Our approach to rehabilitation for crack cocaine addiction is holistic meaning we approach treatment from a therapy, food nutrition, fitness and exercise, sleeping patterns, trauma, one-to-one and group therapy perspective. We ensure your comfort in recently refurbished en-suite rooms, social areas, private garden and therapeutic rooms. You will be catered for by our resident chef and a free laundry service is provided.

As part of our programme, you will have access to a local gym and swimming pool along with supervised trips to the local town. The strategy is to incorporate a private approach to treatment, i.e. one-to-one counselling sessions but not detach you from reality so going back to day-to-day living is not a shock to the system

Detoxification and Therapy

It is accepted that crack cocaine is more psychologically addictive than physical, clients may still be prescribed relaxants for anxiety and sleeping aids to counter withdrawal, anxiety and sleep deprivation. Detoxing from crack can be a scary time alone, but here as Oasis Runcorn we make the process manageable and ensure that our clients are comfortable and supported throughout

Therapy starts as soon as you are physically able which could be one day one. You will start one-to-one and group therapy sessions where you will explore any issues relating to trauma, abuse, childhood abandonment, more recent relationship breakdowns etc…which have resulted in you self-medicating.

For each client our approach is personalised, so we tailor therapy to expedite the realisation that crack cocaine is not the best thing in your life, that you can not only function without but that it is stopping you from fulfilling your destiny, which is to become the best version of you. You are not a bad person trying to be good but a sick human-being trying to get well

Common symptoms of crack withdrawal include:

  1. Anxiety
  2. Intense cravings
  3. Extreme fatigue
  4. Insomnia
  5. Severe depression
  6. Nightmares

Free Lifelong Aftercare Programme

We understand that leaving rehab and having to face the reality of day-to-day life can be an extremely daunting thought. While you may be determined to continue living a clean and sober life, external triggers and temptations exist and dealing with these alone can leave you feeling isolated. To support you during this vital time, we have created a two-tier approach to long-term sobriety.

Short-term: we provide one year’s worth of free aftercare support sessions every week in the rehab you attended (or nearest clinic). Here you will engage with a group based therapeutic approach, with loved ones in attendance (if you so wish) but with the opportunity to speak with a counsellor one-to-one.

Long-term: we have built the UK’s first recovery network for all those who have attended a UKAT treatment facility. This lifelong recovery network is called Alumni – a gateway to lifelong sober companionship. Events include Christmas parties, dinners, adventure days out and, of course, summer BBQs.

This is the future of permanent recovery, and we are proud to be the first rehab family in the UK to offer it. Many people fear that putting down the drugs means losing their social life. At UKAT we say it’s only just begun! Please call to hear more about rehab, recovery and lifelong happiness.

If you have any questions regarding our cocaine rehabilitation clinics, treatment needs, locations and cost – we can answer them!
